15th Annual Santa Barbara Double Century Shifting Gears Cycling proudly presents the 15th Annual Santa Barbara Double Century Ride! May 1-2, 2010 2 Days, 200 Miles Level:  Advanced, 2 Days, 200 Miles Description:  ADVANCED* level ride, supported from Santa Monica to Santa Barbara (on Saturday), and Santa Barbara to Santa Monica (on Sunday). Each day is approximately 100 miles. “One of the most scenic and well produced rides.” *Advanced: To participate in this ride, you must have already completed at least one back to back ride totaling 100 miles (ie, 50 miles on the first day and 50 miles on the next) within 6 weeks of the Santa Barbara Double Century)  Ride/Support:  Breakfast and lunch will be provided on both days. There will also be sweep vehicles and pit stops along the route with water, sports drinks, and food. Bike mechanics, massage, and sports medical services will also be available. All participants receive goody bags! Accommodations: For riders who register for accommodations, hotel rooms/beds are shared (1 Bed option: 2 people, 2 Bed option: 4 people). Registered riders will receive an email to send bedmate/roommate(s) requests (roommates MUST be registered at the time of selection). **Please note that accommodation is shared.  Two to four people per room.  Two people per bed. No exceptions! **ONE ROOM WITH ONE BED OPTIONS HAVE SOLD OUT** If you would like to arrange your own accommodation, we have made a deal with Orange Tree Inn, which is only a few blocks up from the El Prado. You must state that you are with the Shifting Gears Santa Barbara Ride to receive their discounted rates as follows: 1 Queen bed - $95 + tax or 2 Queen beds - $105 + tax. Orange Tree Inn is located at 1920 State Street and their phone number is 805.569.1521. Mandatory Pre-Ride Meeting: Meet:  7:00pm Thursday April 22, 2010 at Helen’s Cycles in Santa Monica, 2501 Broadway (at 26th St)  Map At the mandatory meeting, you will receive information about the ride, including where and when to meet on May 1st; parking; the route; what to bring and how to pack; where you will be staying, etc.  We will go over safety, and what will be provided/available to you on the ride.  You will also meet the ride leaders and volunteers, and have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as meet other riders and select a bedmate/roommate if you have not already done so.  Parking instructions will also be discussed for the morning of the 1st.  Pizza and beverages will be offered. Helen’s Cycles will also be offering 20% off to all participants of the Santa Barbara Double Century after the meeting. Cancellation/Refund Policy: Refund requests must be received on or before Tuesday, April 20th, 2010.  All cancellations/refunds will incur a $25 processing fee.  All refunds will be issued by check. Absolutely no refunds for any reason, medical or otherwise, will be issued after April 20th, 2010.  The ride will be held rain or shine.  You must email sb_ride@shiftinggearscycling and receive confirmation to cancel. Transfers: If you must cancel after April 20th, 2010,  you may locate a substitute rider and submit his/her registration application and a $25 transfer fee.  You must email sb_ride@shiftinggearscycling.com to make arrangements and receive confirmation to substitute a rider. Registration: Registration is handled through our website. You will fill out the form on the first page, click “Submit and take me to Paypal”, and be taken to our Paypal payment page where you MUST complete the payment process in order to be registered. You will receive an email confirmation from Paypal once you have completed and paid for registration. Roommate Selection: You will receive an email from Shifting Gears Cycling asking for your roommate request. Please reply promptly to the email. If you do not have a roommate, one will be selected for you of the same gender. You will be given an opportunity to meet fellow riders at the meeting on Thursday, April 22nd, and may make your roommate selection then.
